My encounters with fashion

There is a very popular Indian movie that had an iconic song, in which the actress was clad in a simple blue chiffon sari and was dancing in the rain with an invisible hero.  Seeing that movie, was the first time I remember understanding what fashion is. It was a statement made by wearing a garment. A few years later I saw a fashion collection in which the fashion designer was inspired by the city of Egypt when he was flying over it in a hot air balloon.

My understanding went further and told me that fashion is imagination and creativity. After some time, I saw a red-carpet fashion event that happens yearly on the first Monday of May in New York City, and I further understood that fashion is also self-expression. True enough, when I started working as a fashion designer, I was surprised to discover that the fashion industry is a place that requires a lot of hard work to turn that creativity, dreams, and statements into reality.

What is Fashion?

Well, fashion in the 21st century is everything that I have mentioned above and a lot more. Fashion is a powerful tool that allows every individual to express themselves, and present themselves in a manner that they wish to. Be it through regular everyday clothing or something special that they wish to wear on specific occasions, it may just be a color that they identify with.

And not only just clothes, but shoes, accessories, makeup, or anything that enables the wearer to feel how they want to feel. For some fashion is a personal statement of their inner self, for some, it is an artistic expression of their creative ideas, for others fashion and design are a way of life and livelihood. Fashion is influenced by culture and in turn, it influences the culture. It is a global phenomenon that affects our daily lives directly or indirectly.

What is the fashion industry

The fashion industry is one of the most complex ones. You ask how? Well, just try to classify the kind of clothes that you have in your closet. Daywear, nightwear, casuals, formals, traditional, modern, sportswear, lingerie, etc., etc. You have different clothing requirements for different genders, ages, ethnicities, occasions, climatic conditions, geographical locations, etc. combine this with shoes, hair accessories, jewelry, bags, and everything that you wish to adorn yourself with, and then imagine how vast the fashion industry is.

It is an ever-expanding sea of colors, culture, and creativity. Not only this there are various roles that one can fulfill in this industry, from a designer of clothes to a stylist of clothes, from a weaver of fabrics to a salesperson of fabric, from a fashion influencer to a spokesperson of brands, from an embroiderer to a master pattern maker the list of opportunities is never ending in the fashion industry. All you need is skill and talent and the dedication to turn your dreams into reality.
